I personally will take it at face value in a couple of years when the fad is over. The metrosexual and lumbersexual fads went away leaving the few that actually like Italian purses or flannel - and I accept that.

I'm not going to lie. With so many people who claim to be trans, it sort of makes it different for those who actually suffer from gender dysphoria to find ample healthcare. I don't know if this was a failed attempt to display empathy, sympathy, or to openly mock those of us who had to struggle with this sometimes-crippling depression.

Then again, this is assuming, of course, that most people tend to identify themselves along a gender binary. Non-binary identities seem to be the more common ones here and likely due to people getting tired of being told just how they should be according to their assigned sex.

I believe there are legitimate non-binary people, as the protagonist Mogumo in the manga "Love Me For Who I Am," but this abundance of people choosing a non-binary identity might be causing more problems than they're worth. Instead, we should probably act according to our genders, and just learn to respect one another's differences. This, of course, only goes for a majority of cis people choosing trans and non-binary identities. I'm not saying there aren't people who legitimately feel non-binary or a different gender.
